The Commandments, Beatitudes, Sacraments, and the Mass are the basis of our religious study. A deeper study of the Catholic faith focuses not only on these and other guidelines of the Church, but also encourages the practice of these truths. Group discussion emphasizes the ways in which students profess faith through daily living. |

Language Arts emphasizes listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Basic grammar, mechanics, and spelling are integrated in the program. |

The Reading component of the Language Arts program is literature-based. Comprehension, vocabulary, oral reading and public speaking are emphasized in the fourth and fifth grades, as well as outlining, interviewing, research and reports. Poetry and creative writing are explored through the writing process. |

In Mathematics, basic facts are reviewed. Multiplication and division skills are expanded. Fractions are studied, culminating in the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions and mixed numbers. Geometric and algebraic concepts are also studied. Various techniques are incorporated to help develop and reinforce skills. Problem solving strategies are emphasized. |

Science includes earth studies, life and physical sciences. The scientific method is taught and students become involved in lab experiences and science projects. Students are encouraged to apply the results of scientific inquiry. |

The fourth grade studies Maryland History and the geography of the United States, and the fifth grade studies American History. The program is enhanced through current events and the use of maps, charts, and graphs. |
